"Iron Man 3" is a testament to just how crazy the Marvel Cinematic Universe is quickly becoming, and I mean that in the best possible way. In just a few short years, the core movies have progressed from fairly straightforward comic book adaptations (2008's "Iron Man," for example) to meta-commentaries on the superhero genre as a whole. (Next step: "Guardians of the Galaxy," a comic book very few people even know exist starring a gun-toting raccoon and a walking tree named Groot. Yep. Things are going to get pretty strange in the Marvel U.) Of course, "Iron Man 3"'s daring approach is bound to leave audiences somewhat divided. Comic fans, in particular, will probably have issues with the huge liberties taken with some major characters. But writer-director Shane Black pulls off the semi-miraculous by making a three-quel that feels fresher than the original. What's more, this is Downey Jr. in his element: working with an out-of-the-box filmmaker, a talented supporting cast and a script designed to take audiences on a wild ride. If that doesn't pique your interest, than there's a good chance the "Iron Man" franchise isn't for you.
